UME Speaker Series: Sam Register
Join us for our last speaker series event of the semester with Sam Register on Monday, April 28 at 7!
Sam Register is President of Warner Bros. Animation (WBA), Cartoon Network Studios (CNS), and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe, reporting to Warner Bros. Television Group Chairman Channing Dungey. He has led WBA since 2014 and expanded his responsibilities to include CNS in 2020 and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe in 2021. Register oversees original animated content development across the three studios for diverse audiences and platforms, including streaming, television, film, and digital media. Notable projects include Batman: Caped Crusader, Teen Titans Go!, Harley Quinn, and the new The Amazing World of Gumball series. He began his animation career at Cartoon Network in 1994, later launching CartoonNetwork.com in 1998.

UME Speaker Series: Randi Michel
Join us in JMHH 365 for a speaker series event with Randi Michel on Tuesday, April 15 at 5pm!
Randi is an Emmy Award-winning producer and talent manager who currently heads the New York office of Artists First, a management and production company. Her upcoming projects include producing the animated film The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear with Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit for Netflix and All Screwed Up, a biopic about DJ Screw, in collaboration with Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack label and Sony Pictures. Randi represents a roster of high-profile clients including John Travolta, Colton Underwood, and Sarah Ferguson the Duchess of York. In addition to her work in entertainment, she serves on the Advisory Board of The Said Project, a nonprofit focused on arts education. She is currently a Visiting Lecturer in Cinema & Media Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, where she teaches a course on artist representation.

UME Speaker Series: Mark Kaufman
Join us this Friday, March 28th, at 4 PM in Irvine room G16 for a speaker event with Mark Kaufman!
Mark Kaufman is a University of Pennsylvania alumnus and serves as Executive Vice President & Managing Director, Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures. In this role, Kaufman has creative, operational, and managerial oversight on all live stage endeavors across Warner Bros. Discovery’s family of brands and businesses. Kaufman reports directly to Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group's Co-Chairs/CEOs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, serving as a member of the company’s senior leadership team.
Under his guidance, Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures has multiple titles playing around the world and is currently represented on Broadway with The Outsiders, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and Good Night, and Good Luck. Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures has previously been represented on Broadway with hits like Beetlejuice, Elf, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Kaufman’s career spans stage, film, music, and television. He joined Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures in 2011 from Unique Features, after 16 years at New Line Cinema, where he served as executive producer on films including Hairspray, 17 Again, Valentine’s Day, and Secondhand Lions. He also worked on soundtracks for films including Rush Hour, Austin Powers, The Wedding Singer, and Boogie Nights. As a writer, Kaufman created Toothless and Just a Walk in the Park for The Walt Disney Company.

UME Speaker Series: Brad Schwartz
Welcome back to campus, UME! We hope you enjoyed your break. Join us for our next speaker series event with Brad Schwartz on Wednesday, March 19 at 7PM!
Brad Schwartz, President of The CW Network since November 2022, is a media executive with over 20 years of experience in leadership and brand transformation. He previously led the successful rebrand of TV Guide Network to Pop TV, where he helped launch Schitt’s Creek, which went on to make Emmy history. Before that, he held executive roles at Fuse and MTV Canada, driving award-winning programming and network growth. Recognized as a top industry leader, Schwartz began his career at Saturday Night Live after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania.

UME Speaker Series: Doug Belgrad
Join us as we hear from Doug Belgrad on Wednesday, March 5 at 7PM in SHDH 209! Doug is Vice President of Original Films at Netflix, where he oversees all movies made in-house from development to release, including upcoming films Knives Out 3, Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, RIP, Ladies First, Fast and Loose, and Happy Gilmore 2. Previously, Doug founded 2.0 Entertainment, a film and television production and financing company, based at Sony Pictures Entertainment, where he was President of the Motion Picture Group prior. There, he was involved in launching and revitalizing live-action I.P., including the Spiderman franchise, Jumanji, Ghostbusters, Men in Black, Jump Street, Grown-Ups, Smurfs, and others. He also supervised a a range of high-quality commercial dramas, including 21, The Social Network, Zero Dark Thirty, Captain Phillips, American Hustle, and Concussion. Doug graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1987 with a bachelor’s degree in history and began his career at Kidder, Peabody as a securities analyst, specializing in media and entertainment companies, before joining Columbia Pictures in 1989. Doug is married and has 3 adult children.

Susie is currently pursuing her MBA at the Wharton School. Previously, she worked in the Investment Banking Division at Goldman Sachs in New York and London, gaining experience across various teams ranging from the Financial Institutions Group (FIG) to and Technology, Media, and Telecom (TMT). This past summer, Susie transitioned into the tech industry as a Product Manager Intern at Google, working with the Core team.

UME Presents: Barbie Speaker Panel
Join UME next Friday, as we speak with the brilliant minds who brought Barbie to life! The sign-up form is in UME’s bio (you do not need to be in UME to attend!). The first 50 people registered will be automatically entered into the Barbie merch giveaway!
From 12 - 1 PM, we will speak with Robbie Brenner, the President of Mattel Films and an Oscar-nominated producer for Barbie!
From 1 - 2 PM, we will have our “Barbie” themed lunch reception, alongside our merch giveaway (hats, mugs, shirts, other surprises…).
From 2 - 3 PM, we will speak with the team from Warner Bros. Pictures, including Jesse Ehrman (President of Development & Production), Jeff Goldstein (President of Domestic Distribution), and Josh Goldstine (President of Worldwide Marketing).

UME Speaker Series: Thomas McFadden
This Friday at 12 PM, in JMHH 250, join us as we speak to Thomas McFadden!
Thomas is Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs & Content Legal at Netflix. In his role, Thomas manages a team that negotiates business and legal terms for Netflix’s originally commissioned and licensed content (film, series, unscripted, documentaries, comedies) in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). Thomas also manages the Intellectual Property, Music, and Marketing legal teams for Netflix in EMEA.
Especially for those interested in entertainment law and the more legal/deal side of entertainment, this event is for you!

We are very honored to have three Penn alumni come in-person and speak about their careers in entertainment/media: Sharon Bell, Wendy Zhou, and Ethan Bradlow. Our Young Alumni Panel will be this Friday, March 15th at 2 PM in JMHH F50.
The Young Alumni Panel will be a part of our second GBM, where we will briefly have our own mini Oscars award ceremony, honoring those who won our inaugural Oscars Betting! Make sure to come on Friday to see if you've won an Oscar (and a gift card to the movies!) Registration link in bio!
